What is ENCODING?
Encoding is the action of taking media (in the form of sound or video) and converting it into digital format. For example, most video recorded by a video recorder is taken in ANALOG format. It is then converted to a Digital (Digitized) format. For streaming purposes, encoding also converts it as well into a Primary format for streaming.
Usually, the Encoding process also accomplishes Compression of the files as well.
